Comebacks From Down Two Sets
Next, I looked at the impact of tournament and surface. Here is a table of the frequency of two sets down comebacks by tournament.
Similarly, I compared the comebacks as a percentage of all 5 set matches for different surfaces.
Looking at players who have had the most comebacks since 2006, we get an interesting mix.
Next, I investigated the connection between the number of games won by a player who lost the first two sets, and the percentage of the time they came back to win.
Overall, the comeback from two sets down is an incredibly rare event in tennis, but it still follows some expected patterns in its likelihood. Interestingly, tournament and surface had little impact on their frequency. However, overall, it is almost impossible to predict, making it one of the most unexpected and fun to watch matches in tennis.
